In Roman Holiday (1953), a runaway princess in Rome finds love with a reporter who knows her true identity. With Audrey Hepburn luminous in her American debut, Roman Holiday is as funny as it is beautiful, and set the standard for the modern romantic comedy.
After filming, Peck informed the producers that, as Hepburn was certainly going to win an Oscar (for this, her first major role), they had better put her name above the title. They did and she did.
Roman Holiday (35mm) is playing with The Best Years of our Lives as part of our Two-for-Thursdays double feature series.
