John Flynn’s Rolling Thunder, is a 1977 revenge thriller which illuminates the dark state of mind and feelings of alienation and loneliness of Vietnam war veterans returning home. After thoughtful character development, vengeance takes center stage as our protagonist (William Devane) pursues his family’s killers (aided by his friend, played by a young Tommy Lee Jones).
Rolling Thunder is one of Quentin Tarantino’s favorite films. He wrote about it, named a distribution company after it, and recently screened it in Cannes.
Rolling Thunder is showing with The Outfit (both in 35mm) as part of our Two-For-Thursdays double feature series.
