Moonstruck

“Love don’t make things nice, it ruins everything. It breaks your heart, it makes things a mess. We aren’t here to make things perfect…We are here to ruin ourselves and to break our hearts and love the wrong people and die.” – Nicholas Cage as Ronny, in 1987’s Moonstruck

No sooner does Italian-American widow Loretta (Cher) accept a marriage proposal from her doltish boyfriend, Johnny (Danny Aiello), she finds herself falling for his younger brother, Ronny (Nicolas Cage).

“The most enchanting quality about Moonstruck is the hardest to describe, and that is the movie’s tone. Reviews of the movie tend to make it sound like a madcap ethnic comedy, and that it is. But there is something more here, a certain bittersweet yearning that comes across as ineffably romantic, and a certain magical quality that is reflected in the film’s title.” – Roger Ebert

Moonstruck is part of our FACE/OFF Series featuring films of John Travolta & Nicholas Cage each Tuesday night, through May 3rd’s screening of FACE/OFF.
