We’ll be joined by special guest Victoria Price!
Dragonwyck (1946) was the first directorial effort by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, who would go on to a storied directing career, including Oscar® wins for his work on A Letter to Three Wives (1949) and All About Eve (1950). Based on a novel by Anya Seton, it’s a mix of Gothic romance and historical drama. The picture was built around Fox star Gene Tierney, but the supporting cast truly shines, especially Vincent Price in a deliciously villainous mode – a role that helped define the Price persona we think of today.
Dragonwyck is screening as part of a double feature with House on Haunted Hill in 35mm.
